About Me
I came to coaching through an unconventional route.
I'm a former international hockey player. I understand performance pressure from the inside, not as a theory, but as something I've lived. After sport I spent five years helping build a creative agency from four people to thirty-five, working with clients including Deloitte. I've been in the room when businesses are under pressure, when teams break down, when leaders don't know how to lead.
Then I trained as a therapist and set up a private practice. It changed how I understood everything.
The thing that holds most people back, in sport, in business, in leadership, is rarely a skills problem. It's a psychological one. Beliefs they haven't examined. Patterns they keep repeating. A version of themselves they're not quite willing to trust.
That's what I work on. With individuals and with teams.
The work is direct, creative, and at times uncomfortable. I'll challenge you. But it should feel alive, not like homework.
“Through my work with James I’ve gained some powerful and much-needed shifts in perspective. I’m more at ease in my own skin in a way I once thought would never be possible. But perhaps the thing I’ve valued most through our work is the way James uses humour. We’ve laughed together through the sessions and it’s something that has made such a difference to how I’ve experienced coaching.”
